Cross Country

Today we did the cross country race. We had to run all the way around the field. It was good fun and we all tried our best. No one gave up.

Drama

This week we are learning to use facial expressions and gesture to show how a character is feeling. Can you guess how these characters feel?

Cupcake Designs

We used the paint programme to design our own cupcakes. We are getting good at using the tools on the computer. Next week will we have a paint task to complete independently.

Making Cupcakes

Today we made our own cupcakes. All the photographs of us baking were taken by Mia. She was a fantastic photographer! We made icing the way that Nancy showed us and we made a fondant rose like Mrs Suh showed us. It was good fun and the cupcakes were tasty. Next week we are going to make our own designs. We will put them in the staffroom for staff to vote for the best cupcake. We decided the person with the most votes should get a trophy.

Nancy's Cupcake Decorating

We were lucky to have another visitor come to school today. Her name was Nancy. Nancy has a daughter in Year 3 at our school. Her name is Jacinta. Nancy owns her own bakery in onehunga. She brought some cupcakes that she had made and showed us how to make icing using warm water and icing sugar. We liked how the colour could be changed by adding food colouring. Some of us got to have a try at icing a cupcake. We added sprinkles too! Nancy was so cool because she left us some cupcakes to taste. They were delicious.

Mrs Suh comes to Visit

Mrs Suh came to visit us at school yesterday afternoon. She has two children at Everglade School. They are lucky because Mrs Suh is great at baking and cake decorating. She showed us how to decorate cakes using whipped cream, butter cream and fondant. We saw how to make a rose and how to ice a cake and cupcakes. We got some good ideas and are ready to have a go at making our own cupcakes. Watch this space!

More Recipe Books

Look! More fantastic learners found some recipe books at their houses. I wonder which once will be the best for us to use? How can we tell which is best?

Fondant Animals

Look at our gorgeous fondant animals. We made them because we are learning to make cupcakes. We also made them so we could talk and write about what we did. Lots of us made pigs, but there were also some butterflies and a chicken. We got to take them home to eat for dessert. They will taste very sweet. They could sit on top of a cupcake so the cupcakes look good enough to eat!

Weta

We had a weta shell at school today. Mr Irvine found it when he was gardening. It felt hard but crunchy. We looked at the shell under the microscope. We wrote about it. Some of us were brave enough to hold the weta shell. Some of us were brave enough to put it on our heads or shoulders!

Recipes

We are going to make cupcakes for the staffroom. We knew that we had to find out what the teachers liked so we asked them. We knew we had to find out how to make the cupcakes and what ingredients and equipment we will need. Someone said we could look in a recipe book. These wonderful girls brought some recipes for us to look at. Now we need to choose the easiest recipe to use.

Interviews

We are going to make cupcakes for the school staffroom. We decided we needed to find out what teachers like. We interviewed Mrs Cave and Mrs Roberts. We had questions to ask and had to write down their answers. We made some surveys for the other teachers to fill in.

Balloons

We are enjoying lots of language experiences in Room 2. A language experience is when we participate in an activity and then talk and write about it. Read Xayvion and Tristine's wonderful writing below.

Hoop Race

Yesterday we had a hoop race against the other Year 1 classes. We had to hold hands and get the hoop all the way around the circle without letting go. Some of us were very fast and all of us kept trying until we got through. We won!!!!!!

Fireman Phil

One of the Dads from Room 4 is a fireman. He came to school on Thursday to talk to us about his job. Mrs Irvine was in a meeting and missed it. Who can tell her what happened by posting a comment on our blog?
