Hail

It hailed on Wednesday. We ran outside and picked up some hail stones. After a little while we went back in and wrote about our experience. Read Shannon and Jackson's writing. They were chosen for the blog because they had 'voice'.

Bearded Dragon

Hayden, from Room 4, brought his Mum's friend to school to show us her bearded dragon. The bearded dragon is a reptile, like a tuatara. It has soft spikes, like the soft peaks on the tuatara's back. It eats similar food, like insects and worms.

Paper Mache Dinosaurs

We've been working hard to complete our paper mache dinosaurs. They took 3 weeks but boy was it worth it! They look fantastic!

Maori Conversations

We have been learning Maori greetings. We learnt them in Term 1 and have been practising. See if you can understand what these children are saying to each other.

Animations

We made some dinosaur animations. All the photos and movement were totally done by the children. Year 1s can do anything!

Caterpillar

We found a caterpillar at lunchtime. It was fascinating to watch how it moved. We knew we had to handle it carefully because it's body is soft and it did not have bones.

Production

We came to school at night to perform our song 'Nature'. Nature is one of New Zealand's best songs. We dressed in our special clothes and sang with lovely tuneful voices.

Measurement

Last week we learnt about length. We were learning to compare objects by height and length. We had to measure ourselves against some objects. We worked independently. Look at what we managed to do:

Slugs and Snails

We read a non-fiction book called slugs and snails. We went on a snail hunt around the school but couldn't find any snails. Mrs Irvine brought some snails from her garden to show us.

The Most Fantastic Hat

What a fantastic hat Kaya made one lunchtime!

Reading

We know we get better at reading by practising our reading. This week we had to read a book from our group box to the video camera. Kaya is the only person to have done it and she only managed the beginning. Check it out. Lovely reading Kaya!

Arguments

On Monday we wrote arguments. We had to think of our own topic. We had to write a letter to our mums and dads and try to change their mind about something. Some of us tried to convince mum and dad to let us have a puppy or a kitten. Some of us tried to convince our mums and dads to let us watch more TV or have more computer time. Read some of our arguments below. Do you think we managed to persuade someone to think the way we do?

Dear Mum and Dad I want a puppy because it is so cuddly. I'd love to sleep with the puppy. Puppies are special. I love puppies and please buy me a puppy.
Kaya

Dear Mum and Dad I don't want to do homework. Mum, if you tell me that I cannot do homework I will be excited. It's so boring doing homework. If you tell me that I have to do my homework I will be mad and if you do not tell me and I don't do it, it will be fun.
Navarni

I think homework is bad because homework is boring. If you let me do no homework I will do the dishes.
Ryan

I think I should be first on the computer. Mum, after me you can check your email. Mum, I want to hop on after school. I will do my homework and then it can be turned off.
Jackson

Dear Mum and Dad, can I have a puppy please? If you do that I will give you something. I love you. Please, please, please, please, please, please, please.
Lincoln

Dear Dad and Mum, I want a kitten please, please. Do you know why I want one? Because Barney pounces on Pearl all the time. That's why I want a kitten. Pearl needs a friend.

Arguments

We've been learning how to write arguments. Shenae wrote a great argument in response to this statement: TV should be banned.

I think TV shouldn't be banned because I watch TV at home. TV is good. It gives us information about dinosaurs.

Basic Facts

The triangle group is learning different facts. They worked in pairs to work out some facts where the answer is 3 or 4. They had to make a chant and practise it. I think they were wonderful. Welldone Jackson, Janet, Rachel and Lincoln.

Puriri Moth

Look at this cool puriri moth someone showed us today. Look at it's eggs. Why do you think it is called a puriri moth?

Doggy Recounts

Read Corban, Jackson and Ryan's cool recounts about our dog day.
