World of Maths

On Tuesday we got to go to the hall to participate in the 'World of Maths' show. Our mums and dads paid for us to go and we had a great time. We worked in small groups at lots of different stations. Sometimes we had to think about directions, sometimes we had to think about shapes. We liked the magnetic maze but none of us could fit all the small boxes inside the big box.

Work

Constable Glenys came to visit us on Monday. She came to talk about the kind of work the police do. We know that police help people. Constable Glenys showed us her handcuffs and we talked about her uniform. We looked at some picture of other police constables at work. There are police dogs to help people and a police helicopter too! We got to see her police car and Chandini spoke over the loud speaker and told us to 'Put our hands up!' Aidan got to beep the horn and Houston had a turn turning the siren on and off. It was great fun. I wonder if any of us will be a police constable when we are adults.

Work

In Year 1 we are learning about peoples jobs. Daniel, from Room 3, brought his dad to school to talk about his job at Supercheap Auto.


He is a manager at a huge warehouse. Daniel's dad talked about how Supercheap Auto sells car and bike parts.


The parts come in huge containers which are unloaded onto pallets. He brought a little blue model of a pallet to show us. Here is Ritik holding the pallet.


The pallets are wrapped in plastic and then a forklift takes them into the warehouse. Daniel's dad showed us a model of the forklift too. Here is Silver having a look at the forklift.


There were lots of other machines at the warehouse which help lift the stock and carry it. There was even a machine to squash the rubbish. What an interesting job. I wonder if more mums and dads will come to school to share their jobs with us?

We have been learning how to make graphs. This week we had to figure out which colour we had most of in a small packet of smarties. We used grid paper to sort the colours, then we looked at our graphs and answered questions.
