Conrflake the Clown

On Friday Cornflake came to visit all the Year Ones. We are all learning about magic. We watched a magic show and then Cornflake taught us some secrets about performing magic. We can use some of the tricks in our own magic show. We are going to invite our families to come and watch us. Posters and notices out soon!

Sunflower Shoots

Look our sunflowers are growing! They have germinated and we have little shoots coming through the soil. How exciting. Will they get as tall as Mr Potty's?

Magic Trick by Mia

We have been learning some magic tricks that we will perform in our upcoming show. Watch Mia and listen to her 'patter' as she performs a magic trick.

Length

This week we have had some more independent length activities. I found two photographs on our class camera taken by some children who can order and compare by length. Well done William. I wonder who ordered the trees correctly? Don't forget to make sure your name is somewhere in the photograph.

Daniel's Writing

Check out Daniels independent writing. How cool is it that he did this by himself one morning, before school started. Can you read it without Daniel's help. I can! 'The giraffe is eating leaves.'

Magic Wands

We found out how to make a magic wand by looking  in a book. We had to cut the dowel using a hacksaw. Look at us go! We painted our wands black and white.

The Sunflower Tree

We read a big book this week called The Sunflower Tree. Mr Potty planted a sunflower seed in the shade and the sunflower was unhappy. We planted our own sunflower seeds. We will make sure our sunflowers get lots of sun. Maybe they will grow as tall as Mr Potty's.

Balloon Animals

In Room 2, we are learning about magic. We invited Ms Sturt to come and show us how to make balloon animals. She showed us how to use the balloon pump and how to twist the balloon to make a dog. Georgia and Tristine managed to make their dogs all by themselves. Maybe they can perform this trick in our magic show.

Magnifying Glasses

On Monday we went outside with some magnifying glasses and chunks of wood. We wrote recounts about what we did. Read them below and check out the photographs.

Yesterday I burnt the wood with the magnifying glass. It was fun. The wood was brown.

Daniel

Yesterday Room 2 went outside in the sun to burn some wood with a magnifying glass. I was Jacob's partner. It was super fun. I was very good at making dots. Jacob couldn't do it.

Connor

Yesterday Room Two went outside under the sun. We burnt wood with a magnifying glass. It smelt like flames. Daniel made a gun. I made a butterfly. It was lots of fun. I liked doing it.
