We have been learning to repeat simple melodies in music. We used two notes which were spaced with a note between them. We had to make our voices high or low to match the notes. We played some melodies on the chime bars then we made our own little song to match a word. Here are some of our songs.

Rabbits in Room 2
Saturday, April 9, 2011
This week we have been sorting and describing shapes. We thought about how many corners and sides each shape has. We had lots of different games to play with shapes. One of them was 'Guess my Shape'. Watch Silver and Aidan as they describe their shapes. See if you can guess the shape before the other children in their group. See if you can think of more information to add about that shape.
Butterfly
Look at this beautiful monarch butterfly that Zahdius found on the grass. It was dead but we shouldn't be sad because monarch butterflies only live for about 2 months. We looked at the monarch butterfly with a magnifying glass and with a hand held microscope. We could see the hairs on it's body with the magnifying glass and the scales on it wings with the microscope. Insects can be fascinating up close!

Aidan's Writing
We used this photograph from the newspaper to inspire us to write last week. The man on the paddle board was actually trying to prove that we shouldn't fear great white sharks. We had some different ideas!
This is the first piece of writing Aidan did at the beginning of the term.

Look at his amazing story about the shark! He tried his best to do lots of writing. Now he is going to try to add the word 'and' to his stories to join two sentences together. Well done Aidan! Great learning! Imagine what you will be able to do by the end of the year if you always try this hard!

Completed Cupcakes
On Friday Mrs Reardon helped us to finish our cupcakes. We baked and decorated them all in one day. They looked delicious. Unfortunately the digital camera battery went flat before we got photographs of everyone's cupcake. We were lucky Mrs Reardon is also good at doing fun things otherwise the cupcakes would have had to wait until the following week. Thanks Mrs Reardon!

Newspaper Hats
We participated in another language experience last week. We made silly hats out of newspaper and then we modelled them on the runway. Watch our blog for our newspaper hat stories.
Before and After
Some children in our class are learning to say the number before and the number after from any number 1-20. Here is Carol teaching us the number before and after 19.
Retelling a Story
The kiwi reading group in Room 2 are learning that good reading is not only about reading a story but also about being able to discuss the story. Connor and Xayvion were able to retell the important parts of the story in their own words. Have a listen!
